The Littlest Mushroom That Could

Isn't it cute? Can you see the perfect tiny mushroom? Earl showed it to me first thing this morning and I immediately thought of all of you. It reminds me of the fae. :))) This little mushroom is growing on a baby tomato plant. We have so many this year! I'm so excited. We have a little greenhouse with seedlings this year.

I love it already. We just got in April on sale for $15.00.  It's been the perfect way to start our seedlings for the garden. You can see how well they are doing in the picture. They are huge! A lot of them will be going outside into the garden by the end of this week.   During the wintertime I'm going to use it to have an indoor herb garden. With any luck this will be my last year missing my herbs during the cold months.

The white bar that you see hanging in front of it is an LED light that we found in a shop for just $5.00. It helps to give the greenhouse extra light when it needs it.

This is a great way to have a mini indoor garden. You can save so much money by starting with your own seedling. My little ones are having an amazing time coming out to see the plants every morning as well, especially the corn as it's growing so fast.
Have a magickal day!

Cooper's Hawk

This morning I was working on a tarot reading when I noticed a bird sitting in the tree across from my house. I got excited thinking it was the red-tailed hawk who often sits there or on the wire but I thought she looked quite a bit smaller today!

I called Earl to try to zoom in on her with his camera so we could get a better look thinking perhaps it was a Falcon or something and we figured out that this beautiful bird across the street was a Cooper's Hawk. It's the first time that I've seen or noticed one in this area. The thing that really helped us to identify her were the distinct stripes on her tail.

The Cooper's Hawk is a medium sized hawk native to North America. This hawk is named after William Cooper one of the founders of the New York Lyceum of Natural History. They live for 12 years on average in the wild.

I'm hoping that this is a bird that I will get to see more often where I am. I love hawks and this was most definitely a welcome sight this morning.

I hope you all have a magickal day!

The Importance of Your Personal Perception of Self

Merry Meet.  Many of you know how much I love to read.  When I found out a friend of mine had released a personal memoir I jumped at the chance to give it a read.  It was a book that I found I didn't want to put down as I constantly was wanting to know what happened next.  Most important though was this book made me think... for days... I still find myself thinking about things as it really made me look at life different.  Every once in awhile I feel compelled to write a review of a book and this was definitely one of those times.  This was my review:

"Maybe everything that I've been telling myself for as long as I can remember is an illusion, a fabrication of other's expectations and opinions. - Spencer Newell"

"One of the most powerful and thought provoking books I've read in awhile. Spencer really bares it all in this book and gives you the raw look of exactly what he went through in his life and the amazing climb he took to get to where he's standing today. I appreciated the honesty that he had throughout the entire book and found it almost impossible to put down wanting to constantly know where he was next. I appreciate the fact that he was willing to really share his life and I think his story will help a lot of people to understand addiction and gain a new perspective on life. The quote above I found the most profound theme throughout the book as I watched his life unfold.

I was lucky enough to know Spencer in school. He was an amazing person with a heart of pure gold. The few times I was able to spend with him I appreciated his friendly attitude and openness. He was someone that was never judgmental and always willing to share a laugh. His friendly smile is honestly something I remember the most. I found his perspective of being the underdog in high school baffling as I read it as I was two years ahead of him in school. The perspective that I knew others had of him was not of him being the underdog but that of envy that two very well known people in the school that were one year and two years ahead of him in class respectively, always wanted him with him. That spoke volumes to a lot of people about what an amazing person he was. Spencer is an amazing person and I'm so happy he decided to share his life journey.

He will take you on a journey, a journey where you get to really see into his world and what he went through. It's a journey that will involve you right from the first paragraph and hold you all the way through until the end of the book. It's one where you will likely want to know more about where he is now. I definitely encourage you to read his book. Spencer will definitely not disappoint you."

I finished his book a couple of days ago and while it can be a tough read if addiction has touched your life in any way I found it to be an incredible read because of how much he shared, his thought process and what led him to make the decisions in his life that he did. It has left me thinking for the last couple of days about how my perception of what people think of me has influenced my life. I found that it definitely had some profound influences on my life. If you think about it how has it influenced yours? I know personally it's something that I will be more aware of as I move forward on my life path.

I hope you have an amazing day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong

Connecting With Mother Nature

Connecting with Mother Nature How many of you have noticed when you are able to spend a day outside you are more relaxed? While technology is amazing and I'm very connected to it, how many of you have noticed that on the days you disconnect from technology you are more relaxed.

What would happen if you could take a day, a weekend, a week or longer and just disconnect from all electronics and maximize your time outside enjoying nature? Can you imagine?

The more you connect with nature, the more grounded and centered you will feel and the easier you will find it is to manage life. Things like taking long walks outside, having time to sit an appreciate a pretty garden, swimming, kayaking, hiking, and any other activity you can think of that is outside will help you to really revitalize and recharge your soul, especially if you are an empath.

How many of you go out and spend time with the Moon or the stars at night? Here in New England we are unable to do that all year because of the weather but it's something I love in the Summertime. We will have a fire and watch for shooting stars outside.

When thunderstorms roll in we try to find someplace safe where we can watch the lightning. We are actually thinking about trying to build a storm porch as we are calling it on one of our sheds this year. Think of it like a mini covered porch. This way we have a safe place to watch the storms and the rain in the summertime come in over the mountain.

Look for different ways that you can connect with nature. Make sure you spend time doing these things. You especially want to make time if you spend a lot of time on technology. I work online and I happen to love games as well so I really have to make sure I balance those activities with outdoor time to maximize my personal energy. Look for ways that you can help balance your energy as well by increasing your relationship with Mother Nature.

Have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Weather Divination

Art by Kida Ookami

How many of you can smell the rain coming?

How many of you have a headache hours before that storm comes?

How many of you can look at the night sky and know what kind of weather it's going to be based on the colors.

How many of you think everyone can do this?

I'm always met with a myriad of strange gazes when I make comments about the weather. I'm sure they must wonder why I look back at them completely confused as to how in the world they can't smell that? To me an incoming rain storm is the most obvious smell. I can pick it up a fair amount ahead of time, long enough to run to the car or get inside.

Ok so this isn't completely related to being a gifted intuitive, or is it.....

A long time ago I started googling scientific explanations for this. I found a lot of explanation like dust particles, atmospheric pressure etc. I'm not going to go completely scientific on you as I'm no scientist. I have a wonderful friend though that will probably laugh at me as he watches me stumble through this. What I do know though is what I read over and over again in a "lot" of these scientific articles. "Those who are sensitive will notice." Ha. Imagine that. No, not everyone has to lay down when a storm approaches because the pressure of the atmosphere is changing to quickly. Guess what, they can't smell the rain coming either. There's a very good change that those who understand what you're talking about are sensitive too, if you happen to find people.  Being sensitive to these changes is absolutely one form of weather divination.

There are many other observations, some which you may be familiar with. Let's take a quick peek.

Groundhog day.  If a groundhog sees his shadow or not tells us how much longer till Spring.

It is said that on Imbolc if the weather is beautiful, winter will be longer as Cailleach made it a nice day to collect firewood. If it's raining, she's asleep and Spring is near.

Whenever we were out for rides when I was little and the cows were laying down my Mom would tell me that rain would be coming.

When I see the leaves flip up on our trees I know a storm is coming.

Depending on where you are from and your family's heritage and traditions I'm sure you probably have lots of other ones.

I would reserve a page in your Book of Shadows for Weather Divination. Use that page to record any tricks that you have. When you know weather changes are coming start tracking how you feel and if you notice anything different, smells, headaches etc.   You may be surprised how well you do!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

The Magickal Color Black

The Magickal Color Black

How many of you have noticed that where there's magickal references you will often see black as well? Black is an incredibly powerful color that many people associate with mystery and magick. It can be a great help to you if you understand how to work with it's energy.

How many of you know that White is the color that encompasses all colors? If you know that, then it would make sense that black is the absence of light and the absence of color. It's energy is said to absorb anything within it's reach which is part of what makes this color so powerful for assisting with energy when you understand how to use it.

You can use the color black to help you absorb energy that isn't in your best interest. This is part of why you will find that many stones that are black are amazing to help with grounding and absorbing energy that isn't helping you. I always recommend stones like Onyx and Obsidian to help people who wish to feel more grounded and protected on their path. Black is also absolutely amazing for protective energy. For those of you who work with shielding techniques try visualizing a black cloak for yourself when you need added protection.

I mentioned before that black draws energy. When you are working with spells black can help draw the energy that you wish to you. It can also be used to banish negativity.

As with any color, you will find that colors can have different meanings to different people depending on what they have been taught and their personal practice. Often your interpretation of the color is what will give it the energy you wish it to have during your ritual work.

Have a magickal day!

I Don't Often Share Posts...

I know one of you will recognize this post. A fellow Moonsong Daily Magick member shared this post last week and it just stopped me in my tracks. It was what I needed to hear on that day and I thought that it may be as important for all of you to hear as well. The day I published it to Daily Magick I had so many members write in telling me how much it meant to them so I wanted to share it with all of you today.

You may want to consider printing it out or writing it down as I think this is a really valuable post and something that we need to remind ourselves each and every day.

Thank you to Liz for sharing this and making my day a little bit better and hopefully all of yours.

I hope you have a magickal day!

"With flowers in a ring upon her hair,
tonight she will dance without a care.

The energy of abundance and fertility she will raise
with a confidence worthy of being on stage.

Tonight the fires will burn bright
so make your wishes on this night

As we begin this beautiful month of May,

Beltane Blessings!

Beltane Blessings!

Who's ready to dance and sing around the fire tonight? I absolutely adore Beltane and all the fiery passionate energy that it brings with it. Mainly the fact that I know that the warm weather is finally here and everything is turning that beautiful emerald green! Here where I live in New England it's been an incredibly strange Spring so far. It's as if the chill of winter doesn't want to leave. I heard that it's suppose to jump into the 80's for the remainder of the week though which would be incredible. From my winter coat to shorts..... that's New England! This is a time of energy, fertility and abundance. I'm looking forward to the return of all the beautiful plants and greenery on the trees in my area. The lawns are finally getting back that beautiful emerald green color and the willow in the back is finally moving from yellow to green.

Beltane is one of the eight Sabbats that we celebrate. This holiday has some of the traditions from the Gaelic Bealtaine traditions with lighting bonfires. It also has a bit of resemblance to the German May Day celebrations for our May Pole traditions. On Beltane we celebrate the beginning of summer, fertility, passion, and ritual with bonfires and May Pole dancing. It's a day to honor life and shake off the sleepiness of winter. The name Beltane translates to "bright fire", the "bale-fire". On the evening of Beltane the Celts would build a fire from nine sacred woods: birch, oak, rowan, willow, hawthorn, hazel, apple, grapevine and fir.

"Nine woods in the Cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.
Birch wood in the fire goes to represent what the Lady knows.
Oak in the forest, towers with might in the fire it brings the God's insight.
Rowan is a tree of power causing life and magick to flower.
Willows at the waterside stand ready to help us to the Summerland.
Hawthorn is burned to purify and to draw faerie to your eye.
Hazel-the tree of wisdom and learning-adds its strength to the bright fire burning.
White are the flowers of Apple tree that brings us fruits of fertility.
Grapes grow upon the vine giving us both joy and wine.
Fir does mark the evergreen to represent immortality seen.
But - Elder is the Lady's tree burn it not or cursed you'll be."

- From the Wiccan Rede

This is a time where the veils between the worlds are thinnest. For those of us whom are sensitive, you've probably noticed the shifting in energy and activity as the veils thin. In ancient times, on the night before Beltane they would put Rowan Branches on the windows and doors for protection during this time from any unwanted spirits that may come through the veil.

It is said that it is the night that the fairies return to us. Legend has it that the Queen of the Fae rides back on the night before Beltane on her white horse and tries to attract people back to Faeryland with her. It is said that if you sit beneath a tree on Beltane Eve, you may catch a glimpse of her or hear her bells.

On the night before Beltane the young people in the town would go out at midnight to gather flowers. They would come back from this all night event dressed in flowers, leaving flowers on doorsteps and blessing the crops in exchange for food. It's a bit similar to trick-or-treating on Samhain. Because of the passion associated on this night it was not uncommon for many a young maiden to come back pregnant after this evening.

Perhaps one of the most well known Beltane customs is that of the Maypole. The Maypole use to be made of the communal pine tree where all the branches were trimmed off and then moved to a tree that was driven into the ground. The tree represents the world center and Tree of life and also is a phallic symbol. Red and white ribbons were attached to the top of the pole. The White Ribbons represented the Goddess and the Red Ribbons represented the God. Traditionally there would be 8 dancers, one for each Sabbat, paired into couples. The men held the red ribbons and the women the white ribbons. They then would weave together a representation of the birth canal by moving in circles around the pole, weaving under each other's interlocked upheld arms in mock sexual union. Beltane circles were once constructed with the Maypole at the center and a balefire at a distance at one or all four cardinal points. Because of the sexual connotations, Parliament made Maypoles illegal in Europe in 1644 but they came back with the Restoration and a 134 foot maypole was erected in the Strand in London.

Have an amazingly Blessed Beltane!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong

Working With Your Projective and Receptive Hand In Magick

**original graphic by Humble-Novice**

Today I wanted to go over a principle in magick and working with energy that is important and should be incorporated into your craft, your projective and your receptive hand. We use our projective hand to send or expel energy, and our receptive hand to receive energy.

How do you know the difference between hands?

For the majority of you, this will be easy. Your projective hand is the one that you use the majority of the time. For example, if you are right-handed, the your right hand is your projective hand and is the one you use to send energy. If you are left-handed, your left hand would be your projective hand. If you are able to use both hands equally, you want to spend some time sensing the energy in your hands, and determine which one you feel more comfortable using to send energy.

So what are some examples of how we would use this?

A great example of how this works is charging a gemstone. Let's say you want to charge your quartz crystal on the next full moon. You would stand outside under the Moon. Hold the quartz crystal in your projective hand. Use your receptive hand to draw the energy of the Moon into your hand, down your arm, through your body, down your projective arm, through your projective hand, to charge the stone.  Make sense?

Examples of Projective Hand Activities

Most of us are healers in some capacity, while you may find you naturally work with both hands during healing, you should be concentrating on sending that energy with your right hand and receiving it with your left. Whenever you wish to charge items you are working with always hold them in your right hand for you are adding energy to them. Basically anytime you are adding your energy, or universal energy to an object to work with it, use your right hand.

Examples of Receptive Hand Activities

If you are wanting to sense the energy of something you wish to work with, you would hold it in your receptive hand to get an accurate feel for it. During meditation try holding your left hand with the palm up to facilitate receiving energy as this is one of the many places you will receive energy. If you wish to receive energy from someone you would join your left hand with theirs to exchange that energy.

I hope this helps!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong

The Magick of Spring Rain

Merry Meet :))) How many of you are ready for Spring? It's coming! Here in New England Mother Nature seems to have missed the message but I am beyond happy knowing that those warm days are coming. All the animals I have living with me are starting to get more active as well. The kitties have been anxiously sticking their noses in the doors that we have cracked to try to change the air in the house. We were just outside looking at the gardens. I was excited to see that the Crocus's are finally up in the front yard and the chives are green and ready to go already.

Today though I wanted to go into something simple that you should do soon, and that is collect Spring rain. It is best if you can catch it from the first rain in the season. The first spring rain is considered extra lucky.

So how do we catch the rain? My first choice is usually a glass bowl. Make sure you cleanse it properly first. You can do that by wafting a bit of white sage over the bowl before you use it, or you can simply run it under cool water envisioning any energy on the bowl that is not for it's greater good going down the drain.

So once you catch it what's the best way to store it? My preferred method for storage is a glass container that doesn't let in any light. My personal favorite is blue glass This ensures that the energy from the water stays intact.

Ok so now what do we do with it?

Use this water as an anointment for luck, so you can use it on candles, or on yourself as it's perfectly safe for extra luck. If you want you can add some luck drawing essential oils to it to make a mist. Sprinkle the water around your altar and around your home to draw luck to you. It is said if you take a bath in it, you will have a year of luck and joy. I might put out an extra bucket this year how about you? You just need to add some of it to the bath, so no worries on trying to catch enough to fill your tub. It is said if you wash your face with the water it will enhance the appearance of your youth. If you wash your hair with it, it will help to attract and keep romance.

Make sure you gather some! Don't forget to to try to get lucky and catch the first Spring rain!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong

Raising a Magickal Child

**graphic by Lady Scorpion**

Raising A Magickal Chil

A question I get frequently is how I am raising my children being that I am Wiccan. I have chosen to raise my children around magick, and allow them to choose their religion when they get older. Some of you may know that my children are highly sensitive, my son is an empath with the gift of sight as well. However I feel this system would benefit most children regardless of sensitivities and religious preferences. Quite simply I teach them to see the world as magickal. So I have a few ideas that I wanted to pass along to you that I do with my children.

1. Acknowledge the fairy tales. Most children love reading books. Many of them have mystical and magickal creatures and legends. I'm not sure about most of you but I was taught very young how they don't exist. Yet here I am at 36 building gardens for fairies, and studying cave drawings of unicorns on walls. Am I saying to validate every fairy tale enthusiastically? No, but validate the ones that you can or at least leave it open.

2. Encourage the bond with nature. Get them outside in nature as much as possible and start teaching them about the things they see when they are there.

3. Rocks and Gemstones. Go out on walks and collect rocks! See if you can identify them together. Then have them hold them, and ask them to describe them. I've been surprise when my son will use adjectives like happy to describe rocks. You may be surprised what you can learn from them.

4. Color Magick. Teach them about colors and their various meanings. You can show them that wearing blue on a certain day can help them feel calm, or drawing a picture of a bright yellow sun can increase their energy.

5. Trees. When you go out in nature, start learning what all the different trees are and have them help you identify them. My daughter actually taught me how to find Sassafras root. My children have a healthy appreciation for all trees now and will marvel at how old the trees are. They also look at the bark for patterns to see if there is anything unusual (or mystical) there. They love finding birch trees to collect the bark to draw on later, and nibble on the branches as we walk for the minty taste.

6. Herbs. Most children absolutely love gardening. Have your children help you with yours. Teach them how to grow herbs from seeds and how to identify them. You can then start teaching them basic uses dependent upon their age. My son knows that he can pick mint leaves to put in his water during the summer. It's not uncommon to see my daughter walk by with a sprig of lavender held up to her nose. They also both enjoy making their own tea. Several herbal teas are actually wonderful for them to drink.

7. Water. My children love water. My son doesn't like swimming much but he still has a strong appreciation for rivers, oceans and streams. I use meditations with them to help them sleep that involve cleansing in water. I talk about a beautiful lake that when you swim in it, it takes away anything negative and protects them.

8. Animals. Pretty much every child loves animals. Most children try to communicate with them. How many of you encourage that? Animals are very sensitive and therapeutic. Encourage the connection with the animals around them. Teach them to be kind by doing things like feeding the birds, and recycling leftovers from dinner for the wild animals if you can.

9. Astrology. I have a fabulous app on my iPhone that helps identify constellations in the sky. We love going out in the summer when it's warm and trying to find these in the sky.

10. The Moon. My children love the Moon. They say goodnight to her each night when they can. (sometimes in the summer it gets too late! ) They also can identify basic moon phases.

11. The Fae. My daughter absolutely loves fairies. We have fairy gardens outside. She knows that if her room isn't clean the fairies won't come by to play as they don't like messes.

This is just a starter list. There are so many things you can do. Coloring mandalas, introducing mythology and tales of the different deities, teaching them to heal their own boo-boo's with energy, the list literally can go on and on. As a Mom I take a look at everything I do and decide if it can be incorporated in some way. I then teach them at what I feel is an age appropriate level for them. My daughter has been asking me to teach her magick for a long time. I've explained to her that I am.  She actually just got her first tarot deck for Christmas. It was a children's one, and it came with a pendulum. She views it as I use to view my Magic 8 ball at her age. I know it's just another stepping stone for her on her path. I hope this helps!

Card 1 - King of Swords

This king sits with his preferred tools (or weapons, depending on your point of view), an incredibly bright sword and a magnificent hawk. These indicate his sharp intellect that
always goes directly to the heart of any matter.

This king leads by intellectual ideals. He does not seek to inspire passion or have his people love him. He uses intelligence, objectivity, and analysis to decide what is right,
fair, and just. These are the ideals he upholds for himself and for those around him. He leads by example. His standards are very high; he expects a lot of those around him. He has no patience for anyone who doesn’t do their best or who doesn’t share the same ideals. He can lack compassion for what he may perceive as weakness and is intolerant of uncontrolled emotional outbursts.

Kings are about Directed and formed power, and the logical use of intuition. They represent the activating, dynamic energy of life. Kings are known for having a logical view of life. Swords relate to the element Air and the realm of the mind. Swords are all about communication.

Card 2 - Three of Pentacles

A woman works on a painting under an ornate arch topped by three pentacles. Two women stand nearby watching and admiring her work.

This card is a sign that all is going well. If you have started a new business, embarked on a new project, or begun a health or fitness routine, you are seeing the signs of progress and even of prosperity. You’ve paid attention and done the best that you can. You are getting attention and probably reimbursement for your work. Not only is the external recognition satisfying, but you are also finding much personal fulfillment in your endeavors.

Card 3 - The Chariot

A woman holding aloft a glowing wand, rides through a dark foggy landscape that may or may not be treacherously dangerous. Pulling her and her chariot are two strong horses, representing great energy and power that she must control. They don’t appear to be well trained, as they are not looking straight ahead but in different directions, as if distracted by the ravens and shadowy shapes in the mist. The chariot driver is using all her focus and will to keep the chariot on track.

This card is about victory through mastery. In this situation, there are opposing and conflicting forces, perhaps very powerful ones, that must be made to work in harmony to achieve a common goal. These conflicting energies may be within yourself or external. Either way, it is up to you to harness that energy and guide it to success.

The Chariot is about struggle, but achieving that hard earned victory. With confidence, control and motivation victory will come.

Have a magickal day!
